SAFETY FIRST! Working on carpentry seems more difficult than it really is. The most important thing to remember is to "measure accurately twice and cut once".
  • Remember to respect all power tools. If used inappropriately, accidents can occur.

Home Improvement Instructions to Secure Your Entry Door

  1. If you examine a typical door strike, that's the part that the door latch fits into, and remove one of the 2 screws holding it in place, you will more than likely see that your security is held in place by 3/4" long screws. This is why you frequently see a cracked door jamb after someone has tried to kick in the door.

  2. To change the situation, remove the two short screws in the strike plate and replace them with 3" drywall screws.

  3. This additional screw length will penetrate more than just the 3/4" thickness of a normal door jamb and fasten into the wood studs or other framing around the door unit.

  4. Try this and you will see and hear how much more secure the door sounds when it closes.

  5. You have just made your home more secure!
