Faucet Aerator ReplacementCleaning or changing your faucet aerator is an easy plumbing home improvement project.Your kitchen faucet or other faucets' water spray will be greatly improved by following these easy to understand instructions.
IMPORTANT!Be sure and turn the water supply valve to the faucet or to the house off before proceeding with this fix. Do Types of Faucets Matter?
No matter which faucet you have, nearly all have a little device in the spout, this is the aerator, that mixes air with the out pouring water.
This device is designed to avoid much of the splattering that would otherwise happen. Plus it saves water consumption, too.
If this device gets clogged with silt or other debris in the water line, the flow will be greatly decreased. All aerators that I have ever seen simply unscrew from the faucet stem. Sometimes they are hard to grasp, but they will unscrew and come out. Be careful to not let them just fall out of the faucet because then you might have a difficult time getting the pieces back in the right way. If unscrewed carefully, you will have two pieces in your hands when it comes off. Note how these came out so that you can replace them with new ones or simply wash the crud off the old one. Try running the water through the faucet that you just removed the aerator from. Notice how much more it wants to spray and splash water. The aerator obviously makes the water flow superior. Web UpdatesI will continually add new improvement projects, repair and maintenance information, remodeling ideas as well as general tips and ideas for turning your house into your home. So be sure and check back often for new additions. |
