Home Improvement Tools - GuidelineHome improvement tools explains what is needed in a home repair tool kit or tool box.Having the proper tools and supplies readily available makes your home improvement projects easier. ![]() Tools That Should Be In Your Tool BoxThere are countless home improvement tools available. Unless you are a very fortunate individual, you probably will have to limit your choices. This isn't all bad news either. Soon you will realize that having a few basic tools will more than likely be enough to handle many projects around your house. Here are the ones I feel are most important.
Good screwdrivers: One Phillips (#2 head) and one slotted.
An adjustable wrench, or a set of socket or open-end wrenches. Pliers: ordinary, needle-nose and wire cutters.
A set of Allen wrenches, used to tighten bolts that have six-sided holes on top. Allen wrenches come in Metric too.
A level, 24" is ok normally, will help with everything from hanging a picture or curtain rods to
installing shelving. A 6-inch torpedo style level is very helpful as well.
A retractable tape measure. One that is 25 feet long is sufficient. I prefer 1" wide Stanley tapes.
A stud finder, which helps locate behind-the-wall or ceiling structural boards. A good hammer - a 16-ounce claw hammer with a good-fitting grip will work great.
A chisel, which can help chip out wood to reset a door hinge or adjust a sticking latch.
A utility knife with a retractable replaceable blade.
An assortment of screws and nails. Usually 1-5/8" and 3" black drywall screws work perfectly.
A cordless drill. Look for one that drills holes and can be fitted with screwdriver attachments.
A bottle of carpenters glue and rolls of electrical, masking and duct tape.
