Roof Vent Replacement

• Remember to respect all tools. If used inappropriately, accidents can occur.


• When repairing vents, be sure to carefully inspect style and color of the damaged vent.

Instructions

1. Missing or damaged vents is a potentially expensive condition. Simply match the vent in need at your home improvement store or local roofing supply company.


2. Set up a quality ladder to gain access to your roof.


3. Carefully walk over to the damaged or missing vent.


4. Gently remove the exposed nails with the help of the putty knife and hammer which are holding the unit to the roof.


5. Gently lift up the shingles that are laying over the top metal of the vent. Remove any screws by using the putty knife being careful to not tear or bend the shingles.


6. Remove old vent.


7. Remove any old roof cement.


8. Put a bead of roof sealant along the underside of the new vent. Note which side goes upward.


9. Carefully slide the new vent up under the shingles. Be careful to not get any sealant on shingles.


10. Square the vent up with the edge of the shingles.


11. Nail one nail in each corner of the vent.


12. Apply sealant over all nail heads and spread evenly with putty knife.
