Home Improvement Instructions for Building a Shelf

If you frequently find that you need a new shelf somewhere in your home, then now is the time to put one up. All you have to do is to decide where, how long, how wide and approximately how much weight will it need to hold.

Decide where and how long the new shelf needs to be and on which wall you would like to put it on.

Using a studfinder, locate the joists within the wall. These are usually 16" on center. Make a small pencil mark.

Determine shelf height and anchor a shelf bracket towards each end of the new shelf.

Lay new shelf board on top of the brackets.

Using 2 small screws, anchor the shelf board to each bracket.
