• Before performing the task of replacing a detector, make sure the electricity is shut off to the unit.

Home Improvement Instructions to Replace Detector

1. Once the electricity is shut off to the old detector, twist the old unit clockwise and pull it down.


2. Remove each connection on the three wires.


3. Unscrew 2 screws and the base will come loose from the ceiling.


4. Hook up the three wires black to black etc.


5. Use new wire nuts on the connections.


6. Use 2 screws to anchor the base to the ceiling.


7. Turn the electricity back on.


8. Test the new installation by lighting a match and blowing it out directly under the detector.
