Table Saw

A table saw is one of the most versatile woodworking power tools in the workshop.

Here you will learn uses, features and benefits of using a table saw.

It is used to rip, square, mitre, groove, shape and join pieces together.

A quality table saw will make completing nearly any woodworking project easier.

IMPORTANT!
When working with any power tool you must respect it.
  • Always allow the blade to come to a complete stop before removing your board.
  • Be aware that a board being ripped can fly out at any time.
  • Keep fingers away from the blade. Use a piece of wood to push the board past the blade.
  • NEVER attempt to pass a board through the saw going the wrong way.

Features

  • A smooth heavy work surface.
  • A handle for raising and lowering the saw blade.
  • A separate handle for adjusting the angle of the blade.
  • Connection for dust collection.
  • Strong motor that starts smoothly with little vibration yet enough horsepower to make deep cuts in hardwoods.
  • Rip fence. An extremely important feature. A quality fence should be consistantly parallel to saw blade and have fine tuning controls for adjustment. Fences need to be sturdy enough to rip large stocks smoothly and large enough to hold clamps.
  • Mitre gauge for making angled crosscuts. On some saws you will find a groove in the table top surface to keep the mitre gauge from coming out when in use. The mitre gauge should slide easily through the groove.

Safety Features

  • A quality blade guard that protects the woodworker from an exposed saw blade.
  • A large easily accessible on/off switch.

Optional Features

  • Tenoning jig
  • Dado Cutting Set
  • Tapering Jig
  • Panel Cutting Jig
  • Sliding Tables
