Worm Drive Circular Saw

A worm drive circular saw is a premium power woodworking tool found in workshops that require a more powerful or commercial type of saw.

Basically this saw is a heavy duty version of an ordinary circular saw.

It is used to rip, cross cut and mitre cut because the blade is positioned in such a way that it is much easier to see the line your are cutting on.

It is much stronger than a circular saw making cuts quicker.

IMPORTANT!
When working with any power tool you must respect it.
  • Always allow the blade to come to a complete stop before setting the saw down.
  • Be aware that a board being can become pinched at any time and jerk the saw hard.
  • Keep fingers away from the blade.
  • Be sure the blade guard moves freely.

Worm Drive Circular Saw Features

  • Size - Typically are sold as 7-1/4" models.
  • Strong motor that starts smoothly with little vibration yet enough horsepower to make deep cuts through wood.
  • Large enough blade diameter to cut nearly 3" deep.
  • A convenient handle with safety trigger to control start up.
  • Blade Adjustment - Typically you will want a saw that will adjust the depth of the blade as well as offers a bevel adjustment. These adjustments need to be easy to adjust and firmly tighten.

Safety Features

  • Safety switch - This is a switch that must be held before the trigger can be depressed.
  • Blade guard - This moves easily when pushing the saw through wood and then springs back.

Optional Features

  • Anti-lock clutch - This allows the blade to slip if the blade binds which will protect the motor and drive mechanism.
  • Blade lock - This locks the drive spindle in place making it easier to change the blade.
  • AC Powered - Must be plugged in with cord.
  • Battery Powered - Runs on batteries making it more versatile but usually has less horsepower than the AC powered saws.
